Beloved Nyandarua ranges burn
The
burning Nyandarua ranges
last
week was not a good one for Nyandarua as the ranges famously known
as Aberdare were on fire casting a smoky shadow over the county side.
It is believed that the residents or more appropriately the ranges
neighbors usually light this fire annually during the dry spell to
insure that the rains come. Ironically it has contributed to scarcity
of rain as the forest is never allowed to grow
the ranges are a the
source of several rivers notably River Malewa which gives a lifeline
to Nyandarua residents and those of Nakuru. Its therefore a sad story

The
ranges are not only beautiful to view they are also the home of many
animals in its national park.

I
did not seem to notice any one attempting to put off the fire despite
a few calls by local leaders for the national government to assist.
The ranges are a national resource so it beats comprehension why the
national government should be persuaded to put off the fire. It is
its duty to make sure that the fire doesn't start in the first place.
The
protection deserved of such a national reserve can not be
overemphasized
