The decision of German chancellor Angela Markel to shut down several nuclear reactors for maintenance, in view of what has occurred in Japan during the recent earth quake and tsunami, makes some sense but also flies in the face of earlier decisions for Germany to stop relying on nuclear power which her government postponed to the year 2030. The German people have to be congratulated for their behavior since the Second World War, for avoiding wars and other man made disasters. This means they learnt their lesson and were sorry for the role played by their compatriots in causing human suffering especially during the holocaust. Their criticism of the decision to postpone, the shutting down of nuclear reliance forever, shows the resolve of the German public to promote world peace and contribute to the lessening of public suffering.
